PREFACE.
The Bishop'^ Transcripts in the Hereford Registry having recently been sorted and made available for reference, the entries for several years previous to those in the first Volume have been copied and inserted here.
The oldest Register, Volume I., is bound in leather, and contains 20 leaves of used parchment, some of which are cut, but the years run consecutivel}- at one end. It contains entries of Baptisms, Burials and Marriages from 1680 to 1708, all mixed together. Then they are separated thus: Baptisms, 1709 to 1768; Marriages, 171 1 to 1756; Burials, 171 1 to 1768. Then Baptisms and Burials are mixed from 1769 to 1786, and Baptisms are continued by them- selves, 1787 to 18 12.
At the other end two leaves of parchment only are used, containing Burials from 1786 to 1812, consisting of 36 entries. Some leaves have been cut out at the com- mencement, but dates correspond with the other end.
Volume II. is the usual authorised vellum-bound Marriage Register Book, from 1756 to 181 1, with strong paper leaves, ruled, containing 53 entries. Only the first entry is given in full, the rest being curtailed.
The old Church and present Tower were built in 16S0. Some money was collected by a " Brief" for this purpose. The Tower contains three bells.
The present Church was rebuilt, except the Tower, by John Hopton, Esq., as a memorial to his wife, and opened in 1861, succeeding an old Queen Anne red brick building.
The Brass Lectern was presented in 1866 by the Rev, O. P. Greenstreet, Curate.
VI. Canon Frome Register.
The Lych-gate was erected in 1894, " To the Glory of God, and in memory of John Hopton, ob. 1891, & Bertha Maria Baskerville," his daughter and heiress, ob. 1892, by Grace Poole, Caroline Trafiford, Walter Baskerville, and Michael Hopton.
The Churchyard was enlarged at the same time by Walter Baskerville, and consecrated October 17th, 1895.
The Vicarage House was built in 1844, and given to the Living by the Rev. John Hopton.
The Canons of Llanthony Abbey were formerly Lords of the Manor, hence the name of " Canon " Frome. There is an old deed in the muniment room at the Court, granting the Manor to John Harford by the Crown, and another conveying from the Harfords to Michael Hopton, ob. 1603.

WITHIN THE DIOCESE OF WORCESTER,
Essitieb bu the Committee of parish llegistcrs.
By Authority of the WORCESTER DIOCESAN CONFERENCE.
This Digest has been prepared under the direction of a Committee appointed at the Diocesan Conference, held at Birmingham, in 1896, and has been com- pleted from the original Returns supplied by the Incumbents of the Parishes within the Uiocese. The dates when each Volume of Registers commence and end, the number of leaves, material on which tliey are written, and the size and general condition, are all clearly stated under each parish.
Added to all this useful information, is a table showing for what years in every parish the Bishops Transcripts, previous to 1700, are now in existence in Edgar Tower, Worcester.
As only a limited number of copies has been printed, early application is necessary to secure a copy.
